Urdu Academy hosts an evening with Dr Asim Wasti

The Urdu Academy of North America hosted an evening with the visiting prominent Urdu poet, Dr. Asim Wasti. The event was held on March 23, 2014 at the Chandni Restaurant, Newark, CA.

The literary event had two sessions. In the first session Dr. Sabahat Asim Wasti thrilled the audience with his unique style of poetry. Local poets also recited their poetry. The local poets included: Kusar Syed, Salma Arastu, Arshad Rasheed, Lubna Manzar, Ali Shan Zaidi, Asmat Kamal, Ahmer Shahwar and Tashie Zaheer. The session was presided over by Urdu Academy's senior member and classical singer, Nagesh Avadhny. Dr. Asim Wasti was chief guest. Tashie Zaheer was MC. He presented a well researched maqala on the work of Dr. Wasti.

Dr. Asim Wasti hails from Peshawar. His father, Professor Salah-ud-Din Wasti, is a well known writer. Third collection of his poetry was published in 2010 under the title: Tera Ehsaan Ghazal Hai.

During the second session of the literary evening the Urdu enthusiasts presented poetry of their choice. Nagesh Avadhany was MC of this session dubbed as "Gul Hai Ranga Rang." Among those who participated in the session included (name of poet is in brackets):

Almas Shabwani thrilled the audience with her two melodious presentation while Nagesh Avadhany captivated the audience with his classical presentations.

Khalid Rana, a senior member of the Urdu Academy, presented vote of thanks. He particularly thanked Syed Sarwat, the Chandni Restaurant owner, for promoting the cause of Urdu language by patronizing the literary events.
